nuno no tabi|03 Weaving — The rhythm of slowly woven fabric

Fabric has the ability to breathe.

For a quickly woven cloth,
The afterglow of busyness remains,

In the slowly woven fabric,
There is a breath of calm.

Zen no Ma fabrics are
It is woven slowly on an old-fashioned loom.

It's for efficiency,
Not to protect the thread,

This is because we value the flexibility that can only be achieved by not rushing.

On modern, fast looms,
There is a strong tension on the thread,
The result is straight, hard and uniform.

There is beauty in that, but
There is no "white space" there.

The old looms
It moves as if it were breathing.

There is plenty of air between the threads,
A slight wavering occurs throughout the fabric.

This fluctuation is not an imperfection,
Proof that the fabric is breathing.

And when you touch it,
I feel a soft calm.

You'll know it as soon as you pick it up.
This cloth was not simply woven,
That time and breath are layered together.

The texture is not too neat,
Beauty is different from perfection.

A balance similar to nature.
A form that is close to people's lives.

Zen no Ma continues to pursue "breathing fabrics"
It's not born from speed.

slowly.
Calmly.
Fabric woven with unwavering rhythm.

That speed is what
It creates a softness that touches the heart.

Next are "feather" and "musubi".
I will write about why cloth changes not through its shape but through the actions of the person using it.
