RITE
A ritual in cloth and time
The night of January 11, 2023, in Florence.
Within the quiet of the Basilica di Santa Maria Novella,
fabric became a "ritual," not a "presentation."
Not a show to watch — a time to enter.
The Invitation
A single invitation
quietly placed on the hotel bed.
Little adornment.
Each touch subtly changed my breathing.
It was the signal for a doorway to open.
A Sacred Space in Light
The Basilica di Santa Maria Novella.
As night deepened,
the presence of stone and air intensified.
Its form seen through the window
was not a landscape, but an afterglow.
The Threshold
The space holds its breath.
The space held its breath for a moment.
Part I — Stillness and Weight
The church hall.
The moment the models appeared, the space was filled with stillness.
JJVE PROJECT #11 "RITE".
The weight of the fabric and the restrained movements.
Something like a distant memory arose.
Inspired by Pina Bausch’s “The Rite of Spring”.
Part II — The Rhythm
Next to appear were the bodies of dancers.
The tie-dyed fabric swayed,
and the clothing stood forth not as "objects"
but as "life."
The rhythm of movement
demonstrated JJVE's freedom and harmony.
Part III — Touch
That night, there were many dialogues.
Before words,
fabric conveyed understanding.
Its presence
transformed the atmosphere.
Finally, the artisan, Lamine Diouf, appeared.
Clad in textiles he himself wove,
he embodied the warmth of hands and the passage of time.
Courtyard
The celebration was not boisterous,
but simply filled with quiet.
JJVE — A Philosophy
Tradition and modernity.
Nature and humanity.
Stillness and movement.
By unraveling their spaces,
JJVE's clothing comes into being.
Respect for materials.
Inheritance of techniques.
Freedom for the wearer.
Its essence
quietly resonates with BORDEAUX.
To wear it is to carry time.
Closing
A fleeting night, held in memory.
As BORDEAUX, the only Japanese store
invited to that night,
we are delighted to share this experience.
This was not a show,
but an event
transcending time and culture.
